Education: Received primary and secondary education from village Daroli Kalan and Kalra (Distt. Jalandhar); Khalsa School, Calcutta; Graduated from St. Xavier’s College, Calcutta; Masters in Arts (Political Science) and Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from Calcutta University; Remained General Secretary of Punjabi Literary Society and Urdu Society at St. Xavier’s College, Calcutta for 3 years (1951 - 1954). 

Career:  In school days, he took active part in student activities. Founded Sikh Students Federation unit in Calcutta and later on became President of the All-India Sikh Students’ Federation and hold the position for 2 years (1960 - 1962), Barrister & Solicitor by profession since 1962, was elected member of Panchayat Samiti, Adampur Doaba, Distt. Jalandhar and remained in office for 5 years (1972 - 1977), Remained Chairman of Jalandhar Improvement Trust for 3 years (1977 – 1980), Elected to the Punjab Vidhan Sabha for the first time in 1985 from the Adampur Assembly constituency, Remained Minister of State for Irrigation, Power and Parliamentary Affairs from 6th May 1986 to 2nd June 1986. Elected as Speaker, Punjab Vidhan Sabha on 2nd June 1986, Relinquished office on March 16, 1992, Member of the Senate and Syndicate of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar from 1986 to 1991, Participated in Akali politics and agitations during the last 40 years and had been to jail on several occasions, attended various political, religious and educational conferences, remained associated with District Red Cross Society, District Child Welfare Council, Association for Social Health, Doaba Shri Guru Singh Sabha, Jalandhar, and many other social and religious institutions, one of the founder members of Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Daroli Kalan, Jalandhar. Has worked extensively for the development of Adampur Assembly Constituency, attended 32nd and 33rd Commonwealth Parliamentary Association held in London (1986) and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) (1987), as a delegate from Punjab Branch of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, participated in the All India Presiding Officers (Speakers) Conferences as Speaker, Punjab Vidhan sabha, which were held in Delhi (1986) Srinagar (1987), Dispur (1989) and Bhopal (1989). Appointed by S.G.P.C to led Gurdham Yatra Jatha to Pakistan on the occasion of Baisakhi in year 1995.
 

Field of interest:  Lecturing, reading, writing (Author of a book “SAADA VIRSA” (Our Heritage) in Punjabi, visiting places and social service, writing articles for newspapers and magazines.
