| Kanwar G R Chauhan 791. entry 30.07.2010, 05:39 | Reply to Mr Nalwa 1. I replied in and agreed in an oblique manner to Rana Osman Ali Sahib's objection to commercialism effort by Mr Arora and most fellow Rajputs here will agree that it is an appropriate entry. 2. I am a layman as far as Rajput History is concerned and dont claim to be an expert in ancient histoty. What I have written are common unverifiable prevalent beliefs. 3. For instance Denzil Ibbetson's Punjab Castes Rajputs are described as 'herders' and not keen on 'manual' labor. 4. Whatever you have written or cited does not bother or impress me. I am what I am.It washes of me |
| Nalwa 790. entry 29.07.2010, 21:19 | Chauhan , you consider yourself a great scholar. I am sure you have read the following introduction to your real caste which is more realistic than all your unverified claim about your past glory. I hope you would read it well and not make effort to insult other castes like Khatri who tower heads and shoulders over your caste in terms of both status and military achievements. Mahton Mahton or Mehton is cultivating caste of Punjab. The caste claims Rajput origin but was controversially downgraded by British and associated with Mahatam gypsies or banjaras. [1] During British era they were known for intense cultivation of melons, "kharbuza" in Punjabi. [2][3] Their landholdings tend to be small due to proportionately larger population and they are also known as good market gardners (Archana B Varma, 2002). [4] It must be noted that the community likes to be called 'Sikh Rajput', although both Hindus and Sikhs are found in the community (Archana B Varma, 2002). . Mehton caste is largely found in Hoshiarpur district. One of their most prominent village is Paldi (Archana B Varma, 2002). Sociologist Archana B. Varma made a detailed study of the struggle for higher status of this community in her book titled "The making of Little Punjab in Canada : patterns of immigration" and showed how the community used its immigration status in Canada to gain upward caste mobility back home . [4] According to A. Kensington , an English administrator of colonial Punjab, their landholdings were so small that sometimes they did not have enough room for more than two or three furrows of ploughs in their long narrow fields. Although they held only 4% of land in Hoshiarpur the landholdings held by them amounted to 13%. [2]Extreme subdivision of land was the hallmark of Mahton villages. Rose also indicated that they tend to be short and dark in stature and are known for very economical use of melon produce on which they could sometimes entirely subsist. | Nalwa 789. entry 29.07.2010, 19:53 | "Kanwar" G R Chauhan, Given the fact that you yourself belong to rather low caste of Mahton Sikh who now moonlight themselves as Sikh Rajputs, you should not be insulting a "Khatri Baniya". You can fool these Pakistani Ranghars (degraded Rajputs) who regularly post on this website that you are a Rajput but those of us who live in India know who you are. You are somebody whose ancestors excelled in growing Kharbujas and eating their seeds and also wearing dirty clothes....and perhaps you forget - and as Rose put it- being rather short dark and ugly....and litigious at that. Go back to your tiny plot and grow some more Kharbujas, the real profession of Mahton Sikhs who now call themselves "Sikh Rajputs". A Khatri baniya is much higher caste than a Mahton like you and they have produced formidable warriors like Nalwa and Guru Gobind Singh. Any real Rajput reading this board where Ranghars exhange messages with Mahtons and calling each other "Rajput" would be laughing his heart out. Making glossy websites is not going to wash away your Mahton roots. People of Punjab know who you are. Sorry if this message rubs you the wrong way. But it was totally unncessaary for you to have insulted that Khatri Baniya for no reason |
| Harshbir Singh Puar 788. entry 27.07.2010, 14:33 | Hello to all rajput brethren. I would like to tell you that Shaheed Bhai Mani Singh ji was a Panwar or Puar rajput of binjarwat sub-clan. He was a great warrior and scholar as he made many copies of Adi Granth, wrote Adi Granth dictated by Dasam Pita, and compiled Dasam Granth. He was the third granthi and first jathedar of Khalsa Panth . He is one of the greatest martyrs of sikh history. His father Bhai Ballu Rao Puar also showed his valour in army of sixth guru . His sons and brothers were also very fierce in the battlefield. His sons Bhai Anak Singh ,Bhai Ajaib Singh and Bhai Ajab Singh Ji became martyrs in battle of chamkaur. His son Bhai Bachitter Singh Puar is famous for his bravery while hitting head of a drunken elephant with a nagani (type of a spear). His son Bhai Uday Singh Puar saved Guru Gobind Singh 's life when attacked by some pahari enemies . After battles of Bhangani and Nadaun Guruji being very impressed released a hukumnama for praising heroic deeds of Bhai Mani Singh and 5 of his sons .History tells that there were about 40 to 50 shahids in Bhai saheb's family .Bhai Mani Singh was martyred in 1734 in Lahore for refusing to cut his hair. All these facts are from books like Guru Kian Sakhian and Shaheed Bilas Bhai Mani Singh. These books are based on bhat vahis Multani ,Sindhi ,Thanesar etc. |

| Kanwar G R Chauhan 785. entry 26.07.2010, 05:15 | Legends Connected with ancient Chauhan's village Sarhal Mundi. There are three legends connected with our ancient village. They are: 1. Shivala probably dating back to 16th century. The legend concerning this Shivala(temple) is that it was constructed single handedly by the issueless owner of a 'Kharas' (flour mill) on getting a dream that in previous birth he stole from another temple. Upon completion he was blessed with a son. 2. The second legend concerns the 'smadhi' of Bawa Uttam Das who was refused oil by the villagers to perform his evening prayer. He sat by the pond and scooped water from this pond and lighted his prayer lamp. Every tuesday evening villagers offer prashad at the Smadhi. The 'smadhi' was rebuilt in 1972 with contributions from villagers settled in UK. There is no oil mill in the village as a result of curse by Bawa. 3. The last legend concerns the village mosque whose minerts were pulled down when fellow muslim Bhatti Rajputs migrated to Pakistan. Sometimes in the late 1970's a mad women started using the abandoned mosque for her buffalos ignoring villagers request not to do so. Soon afterwards great sores appeared on all her buffalos and she quickly vacated the mosque and the animal's sores disappeared. These facts can be verified from any villager. |
